Life Events

When you experience a major life event, such as getting married or having a child, there are many changes — including updates to your benefits. To make changes to your benefits due to a qualified life event, you must notify the People Operations team within 30 days of the event. Refer to the information below on how to submit a request to make changes

Examples of some qualifying events include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Birth or adoption of a child
  • Marriage
  • Divorce
  • Change in spouse’s employment or benefits eligibility
  • Dependent child loses coverage
  • Change in child’s dependent status
  • Death of a spouse/dependent

If you have questions or are unsure if you have experienced a qualified life event, contact People Operations.

Request a Change

You will need to request a change to your benefits and provide the required documentation within 30 calendar days of the event. If you do not request the change within 30 calendar days, the next opportunity you will have to make changes to your benefits will be during the next Open Enrollment.

To process a life event in Benefit Advisor:

  2. From the Benefits Advisor Home Screen, click on the Life Events Link.
  3. The system will prompt you to select a specific life event.
  4. The system will walk you through the allowable selection/change of your plans based on enrollment rules according to the life event type.
  5. When you are done with your selections/changes, check the "I agree, and I'm finished with my enrollment" box and then click the "Save My Enrollment" button.
  6. Upload your supporting documentation verifying you've had a qualified Life Event by clicking My Profile>Employee File>Add Life Event Document.
